HAND SURGERY

Carpal tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome: A very painful condition of hand at wrist caused by pressure to the median nerve within the wrist, or carpal tunnel. You might feel pain, a tingling sensation, numbness of the fingers, weakness or aching that aggravates at night. Carpal tunnel syndrome is associated with multiple conditions including: repetitive motion or overuse, fluid retention during pregnancy, injury to the nerve in the carpal tunnel or rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism.

Dupuytren’s contracture: A disabling hand disorder with genetic predisposition in which thick, scar-like tissue bands are  formed within the palm or even sole and may extend into the fingers. It can cause restricted hand movement, bending the fingers into an abnormal position ultimately affects your routine activity.

Microsurgery

Reconstructive microsurgery focuses on repairing delicate structures such as blood vessels and nerves less than a few millimeters in diameter.

What is microsurgery?

Reconstructive microsurgery is a surgical domain in which specialized operating microscopes and precision instrumentation are used to repair intricate structures such as blood vessels and nerves less than a few millimeters in diameter. This field has made a marked effect to restore form and function to individuals impaired by trauma, cancer and congenital anomalies.

Microsurgery is a very effective tool used by many plastic surgeons to perform specific procedures including transfer of tissue from one part of the body to another (free tissue transfer), reattachment of severed/amputated parts (replantation) and composite tissue transplantation.

Microsurgical procedures represent a vast range of highly individualized operations. Microsurgical reconstruction is reserved for complex reconstructive surgery issues when other options (primary closure, skin grafting, local or regional flap transfer) are not applicable.

Common microsurgery procedures

Breast reconstruction using free tissue transfer

Head and neck reconstruction using free tissue transfer

Functioning free muscle transfer for certain types of muscle paralysis

Vascularized bone flap transfer

Complex wound reconstruction

Toe transplantation

Digit replantation

Nerve repair and grafting

HAND SURGERY

The most daunting challenge in the field of reconstructive surgery is Hand surgery  that can treat diseases, deformities and trauma causing pain and impair the strength, function and flexibility of your wrist and fingers.

What is hand surgery?

If your hand is disabled in any way, surgery can improve your condition. This type of very specialized surgery can treat diseases that cause pain and impair the strength, function and mobility of your wrist and fingers. Surgery aims to restore to near normal the function of fingers and hands injured by trauma or to correct abnormalities that were present at birth.

What hand surgery can treat

You might feel pain, a tingling sensation, numbness of the fingers, weakness or aching that aggravates at night.
